My Migrant Poem
We traveled across the seas,
To see the gum trees.
We came in to our new house,
Where we saw the silky pocket mouse.
This house wasn’t the best,
So we went on a quest.
And we found a little cottage,
However with less advantage.
Our kids were young,
And suddenly the phone rung.
They said we had to leave,
We were filled with grief.
So we left Australia,
And went back to Mongolia.

Wack, Bam, Pow! Darkness...
Peter woke, feeling dizzy, slowly opening his eyes. “Peter, what did you think you were doing, sleep-
ing in on a Saturday morning? You still have to get ready. You’re going to make dad late. he’s going
to be so frustrated. He..” “Stop it Anna, you’re overreacting again.” “I know Goerge, it’s just I was so
worried.” Peter scanned the room slowly turning his head from side to side. Not recognising it as a
familiar location, he turns his head to see the clock. “It’s11.34am!” exclaimed Peter. “Yeah, you got
knocked out and liek, fainted in the alleyway, so we took you here so you could, like, rest.” “Where am
I, Who are you and how do you know that I have to wake up early on a Saturday morning?” demanded
Peter. “We’re your cousins!” shouted Anna and George. “Your parents left and told us all about you
before they did. That’s right they left, sorry about the confusion. Dad’s not going to be late coz he
already left” said George. That’s when I rushed in

Character Excerpt by Simon Spencer 6EV
Once Zelda was a young, determined, strong-willed but timid girl. She lost her family and
her house at the age of six and woke up in the company of a ten year old boy she didn’t know
and she didn’t know where her parents were. After that she had to walk for hours and hours
with no stops at all with this boy she barely knew.
Then Zelda was older, determined, strong willed and brave girl. She was taken in by a
woman called Genia, who looked after her and Felix and gave them new identities so that
the Nazis wouldn’t know who they were and kill them. Zelda, now Violetta, wasn’t afraid
of anything, including Nazis. She wanted to kill all the Nazis and when she was caught she
fought back because of her fiery spirit.
