I sit in my desk chair, spinning around aimlessly, waiting and waiting for Nurse to sign
on to Facebook. She said she was leaving at nine this morning so she could ask Ro-
meo if he wanted to go out on a date with me, but it’s midday and she still isn’t back!
I would’ve thought she had found him by now; he should just be down at the skate
park.
Refresh, refresh, refresh. I keep hitting the refresh button but no Nurse pops up in my
messenger bar.
Refresh, ‘Lady Capulet likes
Talking to Daughters 101
’s page’.
Refresh, ‘Rosa Capulet is in a relationship’.
Refresh, ‘Rosa Capulet is single’. Ugh, I originally wanted to direct message him on
Twitter after we followed each other, but then Nursey found out that he favourited
one of my tweets!
(Olivia Blucher, Year 9, extract from a modernisation of Romeo and Juliet)
It was April 25
th
1984 that I began reading a seditious book banned by our
wise leaders to protect our mental health; it endangered me more than I
could ever have imagined. I was incited by the protagonist who rebelled
against his advanced society, just as I did in my ignorance. The irony was that
the one whom I admired committed the very same act of dissidence that I
now perpetrated; a crime that begins in the mind.
