2013 was the fourth year of operation for the Early Learning Centre at
Lyneham, and the second year of operation for the Early Learning Centre at
Charnwood. What a year of growth it has been.
In January, Charnwood ELC introduced two new rooms. We welcomed Mrs
Robyn McKenzie and Mrs Kylie Tokaji as our T2 Room Leaders, and Mrs
Cathy Ramanu as our PK teacher. We also welcomed Mrs Marie Fitchett as
Charnwood Assistant Director for three days a week.
Miss Sarah Norfor continued her wonderful work as PK teacher at
Lyneham, then became Mrs (Miss) Sarah Barrett. This year Mr Kieran
Hungerford joined the Lyneham team as P3 Room Leader.
A highlight of the children’s week is always their visit to “Mrs T”. Mrs Katie
Thirkill has done a beautiful job of transforming the Art rooms into places
of creativity, peace and calm. The children’s artworks are always displayed
with great pride, as she encourages them to use and develop the creative
gifts that God has given them.
Our Music lessons, run by Mrs Jackie Smith, and our Literacy for Little
Learners program, are valuable ways to encourage our children to do their
best and to love learning. The children look forward to these structured
lesson times.
Our focus at the ELCs is on children being well known, well loved and well
taught. Many times this year, a well planned and carefully thought out
lesson has been turned into something completely different by the children.
It is a thrill for us when the children have the confidence to tell us when
they want to do something differently – and it never fails to turn into
something spectacular.
