Celebrating a fabulous BCC Twighlight Fete

A big thank you to all those people, P&F members, staff and parents, who put in so much time and effort to make Friday’s Twilight Fete such a huge success. Special thanks and appreciation to Suzie Fowler who gave up so much of her time to coordinate the entire event. This was my first Brindabella Fete and the sense of community and spirit that I witnessed on Friday was another highlight to what has been a very big year for Brindabella. Kenny Koala visited Charnwood PK/P3 today.

Let Them Run Wild

As the days are getting shorter and the weather is colder it is a good reminder that children still need to get outside and do exercise and activities. This is not only good for their health but also good for their mental health. Click here for recent research in this area.

Maths & Science at ELC

Today we did a combined maths/science lesson. We discussed volume and measurement. We also used the observe (notice), predict (guess) explain (why did it happen) formula for exploring how and why the food dyes were diluted and spread throughout the water. Finally, we discussed the rainbow they formed and reminded P.K. what kind of behaviour is “Rainbow Behaviour”, linking to our behaviour reward system. It was fun 

Mr Andy and Edward the Emu

Today Mr Andy visited Charnwood campus and read us a story about Edward the Emu.

PK Literacy Information Session and family BBQ

Last night’s Literacy for Little Learners (LLL) information evening was well attended by PK families. We enjoyed a BBQ dinner together in the new Charnwood Junior School yard. We then heard a presentation by Rose, who wrote the Literacy for Little Learners program.

ENCORE: Festival of the Arts

Encore 2017 was a wonderful evening, showcasing the plentiful artistic talents of BCC students from both the Lyneham and Charnwood campuses. The College was ardorned with fairy lights, bunting and lanterns and the LLC and MS rooms were transformed into gallery spaces, displaying beautiful and though provoking art, sculpture and photographic works from students from Kindergarten to Year 12. Food technology students served delicious hors-d’oeuvre while families and friends admired our students work. The evening’s entertainment opened with performances from our talented Senior Band and Chamber String Orchestra followed by Shaylies Dance group. A beautiful touch of Chinese culture was added to the night by the Year 5/6 Chinese Dance group’s stunning fan performance. We then heard from a number of our School of Rock ensembles, who got our toes tapping with performances of Treat You Better, Living on a Prayer and Hey Soul Sister. The Middle and Senior Choir lifted the roof with their performance of Les Miserable Medley and Get Back Up Again from the movie Trolls. In MS1 the Year 2 and 3 classroom music shared with us what they had been learning, followed by performances from our talented College music students.

Resolving Conflict

Conflict is a normal part of life. It is the way we resolve conflict that is important. According to Kids Matter setting the stage for positive conflict resolution involves setting up WIN-WIN outcomes, having children state their own needs and concerns, helping children listen to the other person and understand their needs and concerns, helping children think of different ways to solve the problem, building WIN-WIN solutions and putting the solution into action to see how it works. These are all things we can do as parents and as educators to teach children how to develop the skills they need to manage conflict.
