Despite a frigid start to the game the U9 were dominant in attack from the outset. Lovely passes from Ava and Lucy gave Isaac the opportunity to convert a skilful goal. Some great sister cooperation saw both Isabel and Sophia score two further goals. Ella and Mikaylas were excellent in defence with their tackles. Our loaned central player kindly scored the last goal ending the game on an impressive four nil. Well done!

Virginia Haussegger Report

Virginia Haussegger, an ambassador for the Chief Minister’s Reading Challenge, came to visit the Year 3’s. She read us some of her favourite books such as The Magnificent Jellybean Tree and Secret Tree Fort. She told us that when she was younger she loved reading Enid Blyton books such as The Famous Five and The Faraway Tree We asked her what her most frightening moment as a journalist was and she told us a story about falling off a boat with the camera crew and having to stay on an island with sea lions. They were all very wet and cold and they had to stay all night until they were rescued by a helicopter the next day. She also told us stories about visiting Queen Elizabeth, the White House and spending time in Afghanistan. The Year Three’s really enjoyed talking with Ms Haussegger and we found it very encouraging.

Year 4 Living Wax Museum

Rather than simply explore the ‘Age of Discovery’ in a HASS book this term, Year 4 dressed in costume, created posters, displayed objects and prepared speeches to bring to life their “Living Wax Museum Character”. Explorers like Christopher Columbus, Henry Hudson, Jeanne Baret, Isabelle Eberhardt, Vasco Da Gama, Lady Hester Stanhope and John Cartier were just some of the wax-work figures that came alive when viewers pushed their “Start Button”. Each wax-museum character presented a 1 min talk describing the times, places and reasons they left their homes to discover new and interesting lands. Thank you to parents for their amazing efforts.

Year 4s hard at work

Year 4 is working hard today in Guided Reading groups. After reading excerpts from Charlotte's Web, students discussed the importance of words and the positive and negative impacts they can have. Next, they identified adjectives that described the members of their group. To culminate the lesson, students are cutting letters out of magazines and newspapers to make the words and are gluing them onto spiders they are making.

Yr 4 Wax Museum

What a display of colour and excitement greeted parents as Year 4 became explorers for a day! Children have been busy the past few weeks researching and learning about their chosen explorer. This work culminated this week in both written and creative oral presentations. Parents, family friends and students from throughout the College came to experience their imaginative presentations.

Yr 4 Wax Museum

Year 4 students were busy bringing history alive this week. Each student researched and learned more about an explorer that they thought was interesting. Leif Erikson, Christopher Columbus, Captain James Cook, Sacajawea, and Edith "Jackie" Ronne were just a selection of the men and women that made appearances during the Explorers' Living Wax Museum hosted by the year group. Parents, students, teachers, and staff members thoroughly enjoyed pushing buttons and watching the explorers come to life, sharing information about themselves and their adventures. The Year 4 teachers couldn't have been more proud of the students. They put a tremendous amount of effort and enthusiasm into this project, one they are all likely to remember for many years to come.
