Principal’s Report
T
he 2011 year at Brindabella Christian
College will go down in history as the
moment when the hopes and dreams of
generations were fulfilled as the College
commenced senior college classes. The
first Year 11 student cohort started in a
brand new purpose built senior college
wing. With state of the art facilities,
the Margaret Sargeant Wing, was opened
with the assistance of the Federal
Government’s Building the Education
Revolution (BER) funding. The BER money
for primary buildings at the College was
a blessing to the Brindabella community
and came at just the right moment.
The Margaret Sargeant Wing was also
awarded the 2011 ACT Master Builders
Association commercial building for
under $5 million. An award winning
building for the first Year 11 students and
the College library was a well-deserved
achievement thanks to the hard work of
the Staff, College Board, Architect and
Project Manager. Similarly, the Year 11
flexible learning curriculumwas the result
of the dedication and clever work of the
BCC staff and Board. The introduction
of laptops into Year 11 classes and a
late start and finish to senior days,
created a dynamic alternative to best
learning practice across the senior years.
The number of students attending
Brindabella Christian College surged
forward, with over 100 new students
beginning their studies at the College
at the commencement of the New Year
with a net total of 519 at August census.
A
s classes became full, the number of
applications and enquiries for the year
placed significant pressure on class
placements. Cognisant of these pressures,
on 24th September 2011, the College
Board decided to commence an Early
Learning Centre at Charnwood to open in
January 2012. This Early Learning Centre
would, God willing, commence a Junior
School Department in 2014 in Charnwood.
The Christian foundation of Brindabella
provides the compass around which the
community understands its purpose. The
reputation of the College is due to the
remarkableBCCstaff. TeachersandGeneral
staff who are dedicated to the spiritual
development of children and young people
as Disciples of Christ and unswerving
commitment to best teaching practice.
The work of those serving on the College
Board,Mr. Peter Crimmins (BoardChair),Mr.
Steve Brissenden, Mr. Jon Hunt-Sharman,
Mr. Jefferson Godfrey, Mr. Simon Mitchell
and Mr. Greg Zwajgenberg is second to
none. The Brindabella Christian College
Board is a strong and competent board
whose members serve selflessly to see the
work of the Lord sustained and promoted
at the College. Congratulations to the
Board for their outstanding contribution
and support of BCC throughout 2011.
