Year 10 Service Retreat
In the last week of Term 2, Year 10 students participated in a service retreat where they headed out into a community
to bless others through service. This year the students travelled to Jindabyne and Berridale to work with Adventist
Alpine Village and Berridale Retirement Hostel in a range of different areas.
Wednesday 26th of June - At the Adventist Alpine Village the students were put to work in a range of capacities in
order to bless them before their busy snow season starts. They were put in three groups, one group to garden (pulling
weeds, planting new plants etc), rock removal (removing large rocks from grassed areas and using these rocks to
fill holes) and window cleaning of the many rooms at the village. That night the students were blessed to receive a
fantastic talk from Mrs. Spencer, who spoke some powerful words into the students’ lives. They were so engaged that
they forgot that State of Origin had already started.
Thursday 27th of June - As a bit of fun and a way to build community within the cohort, the students were taken to
Perisher Resort. They took the Skitube to front valley where they tobogganed for a few hours. After lunch we travelled
up to Blue Cow where they spent hours amusing themselves with, snowball fights, races through the deep powder,
capture the flag, sliding down snow and kitkat hunting. We were truly blessed with warm sunny weather and a fun
filled day. That night the students received some thought provoking and challenging messages from Jefferson and
Katie Godfrey. They were then quickly asleep.
Friday 28th of June - On Friday morning the group travelled to a retirement community in Berridale. Here they
performed for the residents in a variety of ways, including songs, musical performances, dances, short story readings
and poetry readings. After this the students spent a few hours talking with the residents and playing games with
them.
The way in which the students served over the course of the three days was impressive. They all wholeheartedly put the
various needs of others in front of themselves. The level of maturity that was exhibited is a credit to the students, their
families and the College.
ACT Schools Mountain Biking Championships
On Friday 30th August a team of 21 students participated in the ACT Schools Mountain Biking Championships
at Stromlo Forest Park. With an overnight storm the course was dampened causing some brilliant mud-holes
for the students to contend with on the track. Racing started at 10:00am and teams competed in a relay race
to complete as many laps as possible prior to the finishing time of 2:00pm. Students competed well and it was
excellent seeing our team with their jerseys out on the course encouraging each other and enjoying a day out as
a team.
