Annual Report 2012 - page 5

Board Chair Report
In 2012 the Board delivered on
time an Early Learning Centre at
Charnwood and has received very
positive feedback from parents utilising
this new facility. !e Board has been
given in principle approval from the
ACT Government in regards to our
application for the primary years of
schooling at the Charnwood Campus.
We have developed plans to refurbish
the buildings that will be utilised by the
College to establish primary schooling at
the Charnwood campus.
In 2012 the Board also made application
to the Block Grant Authority (BGA)
for funding to assist in the building of a
Physical Education Sports Hall, Music,
Dance and Drama room; GPLAs and
the Canteen. We were informed that
our submission was not successful this
round but we have been encouraged
to resubmit our proposal for the next
round of funding.
In 2012 the Board also made application
to the Trade Training Centres inSchools
Program (TCC). !e Program allows
secondary students from Years 9-12 to
access vocational education and training
through TTCs to give them a broader
range of options so as to improve
Year 12 retention rates and enhance
pathways into vocational careers.
Under the Program, funds are available
for major capital works, upgrade of
existing familities and industry standard
equipment. !e College wa unsuccessful
but have been again encouraged to
resubmit for the next round of funding.
!e amount of work that goes into
BGA and TCC applications should
not be underestimated. I would like
to thank the whole Board and the
College Executive for their signi"cant
contribution. It should be remembered
that all Board members, other than the
Principal, perform their role on a
voluntary, unpaid basis. !ey dedicate
many, many hours to the College and
collectively have delivered extraordinary
outcomes for our College community.
As Board Chair in 2012 I would like to
express my thanks and appreciation to
our former Chairman, Peter Crimmins.
His leadership, strength and wisdom
forged a united and committed Board
which has achieved extraordinary things
under his stewardship. Fortunately,
upon his retirement, Peter has been
retained on the Board as a Director.
He has vounteered to continue on in
this capacity for some time to come. I
wish to thank my other fellow Board
members: Mrs Elizabeth Hutton
(Principal); Mr Greg Zwajgenberg;
Mr Stephen Brissenden and Mr
Je#erson Godfrey for their wondersful
contribution and dedication to the
College community and Christian
education in North Canberra.
On behalf of the Board I also wish
to thank all those people within our
College community that quietly work
behind the scenes to assist and support
the College sta# and students. !ank
you for your e#orts.
Jon Hunt-Sharman
